HC Deb 09 November 1936 vol 317 cc521-2W
Mr. GLEDHILL

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether any information is available as to the success of the Empire Exhibition now being held in Johannesburg?

Captain WALLACE

I am not in a position to give any detailed information as to the financial or commercial results of the Exhibition. I have, however, recently visited Johannesburg, where I had an opportunity of inspecting the Exhibition, and I have no hesitation in assuring my hon. Friend from personal observation, that it is achieving a conspicuous success. The United Kingdom Government Pavilion, which was erected and equipped by the Department of Overseas Trade "as a tribute of esteem from the people of the United Kingdom to the people of the Union of South Africa," has earned the enthusiastic appreciation of all visitors to the Exhibition.
