asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the estimated cost of each of the two new aircraft carriers, both with and without their cargo of aeroplanes; and whether the construction of the vessels and expenditure thereon will start during this financial year?

As the design for the two aircraft carriers of the 1936 new construction programme has not yet been approved, I regret that I cannot give 'an estimate of their cost. It is anticipated that the vessels will be ordered during the last quarter of the current financial year.
