§ Mr. PERKINSasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that a commodity composed of a mixture of sugar and other ingredients including a small proportion of honey is being sold as honey; and whether he will take steps to protect the public from this deception?
§ Mr. SHAKESPEAREMy right hon. Friend is aware that a substance which is not pure honey is sold under the name of "prepared honey" with a label indicating that it is a mixture. My right hon. Friend has no power to take any action in the matter, but if the circumstances of the sale are such as to constitute an offence under the Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act, the duty of enforcement rests on the local authorities and it is also open to any person to take proceedings.
