HC Deb 21 May 1936 vol 312 cc1388-9W
Mr. PARKER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether it is proposed to appoint a High Commissioner for Burma, resident in London, separate from the control of the High Commissioner for India, in accordance with the wishes of the Burmese people and the separate political existence of Burma?

Mr. BUTLER

Information as to the volume of work that would fall to be performed by a High Commissioner for Burma in this country is as yet insufficient to justify a decision to incur the cost which a separate office and establishment would impose on the revenues of Burma.
