§ Mr. GALLACHERasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether appeals have been entered on behalf of the two British subjects, Messrs. Psaila and Ghirlando, sentenced to three and three and a-half years' imprisonment, respectively, by the Italian courts at Tripoli in March this year; and whether any arrangements have been made for a British Government observer to attend the appeal?
§ Mr. EDENI am informed that Mr. Psaila and Mr. Ghirlando, on the advice of their lawyers, have not appealed to the Higher Court, but are forwarding petitions to the proper authorities for the cancellation or reduction of the sentences imposed on them. I have instructed His Majesty's Ambassador at Rome to do everything in his power to secure favourable consideration for these petitions.
