Mr. RATHBONEasked the Attorney-General how many persons are annually barred from instituting legal proceedings without the leave of the court under Section 51 of the Supreme Court of Judicature (Consolidation) Act, 1925; and how many of these are women who have been thus debarred on the ground that they have repeatedly taken out summonses against their husbands in the police courts?

The ATTORNEY-GENERALFourteen people have been debarred in the last 30 years under the section quoted, and as far as I am aware, in no case has the application to the Supreme Court by the Attorney-General for an Order under that section been based on the grounds mentioned by my hon. Friend.
