§ Colonel WEDGWOODasked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to the order for deportation passed on a German refugee from a concentration camp in Germany; and whether he will cancel this order as being inconsistent with British prestige?
§ Mr. LLOYDThe right hon. Gentleman is doubtless referring to the recommendation for deportation made in the case of Willi Melchert, a German, at Bow Street Police Court on the 21st instant. Having considered the case my right hon. Friend has decided not to make an order for deportation. At the end of his sentence, Melchert will be released to the care of a Committee of the Society of Friends which has undertaken responsibility for making arrangements for his emigration.
