Mr. SMEDLEYCROOKE asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the employment of ex-Service men to assist the police in traffic control and control of pedestrian crossings, such men to be sworn in as special constables?
§ Sir J. SIMONThe Commissioner of Police takes the view, with which I fully agree, that if additional men are to be provided for this purpose they should be regular members of the force able to deal with any police matter which may arise.
