§ Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLEasked the Home Secretary on what basis witnesses were selected to appear before the recent committee on the functions of coroners; and if he is satisfied that all suitable qualified witnesses were called before the committee?
§ Sir J. SIMONI understand that the committee decided that the most convenient arrangement would be to ask potential witnesses to submit statements summarising the evidence which they were in a position to give and that the witnesses were selected after consideration of these statements. A list of witnesses and of associations and individuals who submitted statements but did not give evidence will be found in the appendix to the committee's report. The selection of witnesses was a matter for the committee's discretion, and I have no reason to think that the field of their inquiry was not adequately covered.
