§ Viscount CRANBORNEAs regards the first part of the question, information regarding this agreement was first communicated to my right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on 12th January, 1935. As regards the second part, His Majesty's Government received the fullest assurances that the scope of the agreement was purely economic. No such action as the hon. Gentleman suggests was therefore required.
