§ Mr. PRICEasked the hon. and gallant Member for Barkston Ash, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, whether he is aware that there are considerable iron-ore deposits in the Forest of Dean; that certain iron-ore workings in this area, abandoned some years ago, could be pumped out by modern methods at a 2300W reasonable cost; and whether he is prepared to inquire into the matter, with a view to affording some form of Government assistance to enable these mines to re-start?
§ Sir G. COURTHOPEI have been asked to reply. The Forestry Commissioners are aware that there are considerable iron-ore deposits in the Forest of Dean. Whether the mines could be de-watered at a reasonable cost would depend on the output of iron-ore, the cost of production and the selling price. The Commissioners are prepared to consider any scheme submitted by responsible persons.
