HC Deb 09 December 1936 vol 318 cc1998-9W
Mr. MORGAN JONES

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how much money under the scheme approved by Parliament for a £2,500,000 Palestinian loan was allocated for the assistance of small Arab landowners in the hill districts; and what was the total number of applications before notification was given that no further applications could be considered?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

The Palestine loan which the Treasury was authorised by Parliament to guarantee was for £2,000,000, of which £200,000 was for Agricultural Credits. Out of the latter sum, £50,000 was alloted by the Palestine Government for the purpose of long-term development loans to cultivators in the hills. I am not in possession of figures as to the number of applications received, but I will inquire of the High Commissioner.
