§ Captain PLUGGEasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can make any statement as to the significance of the new calling up of 50,000 reserves in Austria; and whether the British Government has made or received any representations on the subject from other governments?
§ Mr. EDENInquiries were received by His Majesty's Government regarding the compatibility of the Austrian law regarding compulsory service with the Treaty of St. Germain before the subsequent developments, referred to in the first part of my hon. and gallant Friend's question, occurred. As I stated in the House on Monday, the whole position is under careful review, and I would prefer to make no statement in advance of other parties who are signatories of the Treaty of St. Germain.
