HC Deb 09 April 1936 vol 310 cc2958-9W
Mr. SEXTON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total amount of money, if any, paid to owners of land in France by the British Government for consideration, rent, or allowance for land used as cemeteries and other burial places for British soldiers killed in the Great War, 1914 to 1919?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The French Government presented to the Imperial War Graves Commission as a free gift all the land used for the burial of British soldiers killed in action and accordingly no payments were made for the purchase of land for the purpose.
