HC Deb 02 April 1936 vol 310 cc2162-3W
Mr. ROSTRON DUCKWORTH

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what would be the cost of awarding pensions of 10s. per week to all spinsters of 60 years of age who are regular contributors to the health insurance scheme?

Mr. W. S. MORRISON

The cost of granting contributory old age pensions at age 60, instead of at the present age of 65, to insured spinsters would be approximately £2,000,000 a year at the present time. The cost would increase steadily in future.
