Mr. THOMASProgress has been made this summer by the Commission of Government on the lines foreshadowed in the two Command Papers, Nos. 4788 and 4910, issued earlier in the year. Further reductions in the tariff, designed to ease the burden of the cost of living, were introduced on the 1st July, and special arrangements were made to lower the cost of petrol to the fishermen. The fishing season began well but I am sorry to say that the latest reports indicate that the results have not come up to expectations.
