HC Deb 31 May 1935 vol 302 cc1421-2W
Mr. GROVES

asked the Home Secretary whether he will inquire into the circumstances of the imposition of the sentence of one month's hard labour on Wolf Toledano, at the West Ham Quarter Sessions, 16th May; and whether, as this lad is only 20 years of age, he will consider remitting the sentence or part of it?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I find that the defendant in question was convicted and sentenced at the West Ham Petty Sessions in February, and that his appeal to Quarter Sessions was dismissed on the 16th instant. If there are any special circumstances which the hon. Member wishes to bring to my notice, I shall be prepared to consider them, but I could not regard the defendant's age as in itself affording ground for recommending any remission of the sentence imposed on him.
