asked the Minister of Labour the index figure for coal in the latest cost-of-living figures for 1931; and the latest date for which figures are available?

Mr. STANLEY

According to the information collected for the purpose of the official index-number relating to changes in working-class cost of living, retail prices of coal at 1st May, 1935, showed an average increase of 75 to 80 per cent. over the level of July, 1914, as compared with an average increase of 80 to 85 per cent. at 1st May, 1931.
