LORD STRACHIE

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY OF THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES (EARL DE LA WARR)

The numbers of animals slaughtered and the amount of compensation paid in connection with the recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Dorset are as follow:—Number of separate outbreaks, 10; animals slaughtered: cattle, 1,199; sheep, 3,236; pigs, 983—total, 5,418; compensation paid, £25,871. The restrictions on movement are still being maintained over an area of five miles radius surrounding the infected places at Iwerne Courtney, Sturminster Newton and Piddletrenthide.
