HC Deb 27 March 1935 vol 299 cc1915-6W
Mr. MORGAN JONES

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he is aware that the local authority in Tewkesbury propose to enlarge the Church of England school and close two of the council schools, so that two-thirds of the schools will come under denominational control; that the scheme will necessitate converting the existing Church of England school into a two-storey building with a playground on the roof; that eventually all the children will have to pass through this school until 11 years of age; and that in 1930 land was purchased for the erection of new council schools, but no further steps have been taken; and whether, in view of the strong local opposition to the proposal, he will have inquiries made into the matter?

Law Officers of the Crown with regard to the powers already in existence to regulate the import of eggs by quota; and whether he will make a statement to the House as to the result?

Dr. BURGIN

No question has yet arisen in this regard on which the Law Officers need be asked to advise.
