asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can now make a statement with regard to the actual progress made in the reorganisation of the iron and steel industry?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The hon. Member will find some recent information in the report of the Import Duties Advisory Committee of 28th February which is published in Command Paper 4851.

Mr. WHITE

asked the Prime Minister whether the effect of the proposed additional import duties on iron and steel on the currency difficulties of Belgium and other gold bloc countries has been considered by the Economic Advisory Council?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir. The order was made after the recommendations of the Import Duties Advisory Committee had been considered by the departments as required by the Import Duties Act.
