HC Deb 04 June 1935 vol 302 cc1709-10W
Mr. T. MORRIS

asked the President of the Board of Trade what is the present position of the subsidy promised to tramp shipping; and whether a start has been made with rationalising the shipping industry by laying up or scrapping unwanted tonnage?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The first payments of subsidy under the provisions of Part I of the British Shipping (Assistance) Act, 1935, are now being made. With regard to the second part of the question, I assume that my hon. Friend has in mind

Irfon near Builth have been submitted to and approved by my Department, and I have asked that the views of the Royal Fine Arts Commission may be obtained on its architectural features.
