HC Deb 25 July 1935 vol 304 c2023W
Mr. N. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the reasons for the decision to abandon the building of the third fishery cruiser; and whether he will consider the use of a submarine instead of hiring several trawlers to patrol the coast?

Sir G. COLLINS

I think the first part of the hon. Member's question is based on a misapprehension. Practical difficulties have been experienced in the designing of the third fishery cruiser but it is not intended to abandon its construction. The use of submarines for fishery patrol work presents difficulties in regard to both cost and efficiency for the work, but I am prepared to look into the question further.
