HC Deb 16 July 1935 vol 304 c877W
Dr. O'DONOVAN

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he will ascertain and report the reasons that led the Director of Education for the county of Southampton to advise an inspection of physical training at Fareham Senior Boys' School by Miss Beagle on 26th February, 1935, when this class had been inspected by the same lady in June, 1933?

Mr. STANLEY

The length of the intervals between visits of inspection by officers of a local education authority is a matter for the discretion of the authority, and I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by making the inquiry suggested in my hon. Friend's question.

Dr. O'DONOVAN

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he can ascertain how long Miss Beagle and Mr. Lomas, respectively, have been in the service of the Southampton Education Committee?

Mr. STANLEY

Miss Beagle entered the service of the Hampshire local education authority on 1st August, 1920, and Mr. Lomas on 1st October, 1927.

Dr. O'DONOVAN

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that Mr. Lomas, who was dismissed by the Southampton Education Authority, made a written application for a personal interview with the director of education which was refused; and whether he could state on what grounds?

Mr. STANLEY

This matter is one entirely within the discretion of the local education authority, and I have no information on the circumstances referred to in the question.
