HC Deb 04 July 1935 vol 303 c2015W
Mr. MAINWARING

asked the Minister of Agriculture the total number of registered bacon curers operating in the United Kingdom; how many receive respectively more or less than 1,000 pigs per week; and is he in a position to state what output figure represents the highest economic efficiency?

Mr. ELLIOT

I am informed by the Bacon Marketing Board that there are 626 registered bacon curers in Great Britain; of these, seven were handling more than 1,000 pigs per week in the period January to May, 1935. I am unable to give any figure which may be accepted as the unit of maximum efficiency, but I have no doubt that this question will engage the careful consideration of the Development Board, if and when appointed.
