§ Mr. LEWISasked the Postmaster-General the amount of the loss to the Post Office on Press telegrams for the last 12 months for which figures are available?
§ Sir E. BENNETTThe loss on Press telegrams for the year ended 31st March, 1934, is estimated at £168,000. This deficit is arrived at after charging against them a proportionate share of the general expenses of the telegraph service. It does not purport to represent the expenditure which would be saved by eliminating Press telegrams which would amount to a much lower figure.
