Colonel BROWNasked the Minister of Transport whether he will inquire why so few men are employed on the road scheme between Haltwhistle and Bredon Mill; and if this is in any measure due to Government grants having been delayed for any cause?
§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAThe work, which is estimated to cost £20,000, comprises a new section of road in cutting. I am informed that 35 men on an average are employed on the works. Excavation is proceeding at each end and I am advised that as a matter of engineering practice no more could usefully be employed at present. As soon as a later stage of the works is reached, more labour will be engaged. The answer to the latter part of the question is in the negative, the grant from the Road Fund having been made in October, 1934.
