§ Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTEasked the Minister of Agriculture whether in all cases of foot-and-mouth disease inquiries are made as to whether any foreign meal has been used on the farms concerned; and, if so, whether he can state in what percentage of these farms such foreign meal has been used?
§ Mr. ELLIOTThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Out of 136 initial or new outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease which have occurred in Great Britain during the last 10 years it was ascertained that imported meal was on the premises in 58 cases, or 43 per cent.
§ Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTEasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is satisfied that he has sufficient powers to prevent the importation of any article which might cause foot-and-mouth disease; and, if not, whether he will obtain such powers?
§ Mr. ELLIOTI am advised that Section 30 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1894, confers upon the Minister all the necessary powers.
