HC Deb 30 November 1934 vol 295 c1156W
Dr. O'DONOVAN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether in the last three years sanction has been given by the Board for the erection of any new provided schools which when completed would make full provision for the local child population, including such children for whom it might have been expected provision would be made by the erection of a non-provided school?

Mr. RAMSBOTHAM

My Noble Friend presumes that the hon. Member refers to cases in which proposals for the provision of additional school accommodation in a particular area have been made by a voluntary body as well as by the local education authority, and the Board have been called upon to decide whether either or both of the proposals should be allowed. During the last three years the Board have in one such case, on grounds of economy and educational efficiency, disallowed the proposal of the voluntary body and allowed the proposal of the local education authority.
