HC Deb 31 May 1934 vol 290 cc362-3W
Mr. GROVES

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that, notwithstanding the legislation pending to legalise bookmakers at greyhound racecourses, the Stenhouse Racing Stadium, Limited, has been prosecuted for permitting bookmakers to be present and accept bets, and that when the case came before the sheriff, although a verdict of not guilty was given, the Procurator-Fiscal gave notice of appeal; and whether he will issue instructions for the discontinuance of such prosecutions pending the passing into law of the Betting Bill?

The LORD ADVOCATE

I have given instructions for the withdrawal of the appeal referred to by the hon. Member (which was taken by the Procurator-Fiscal before the introduction of the Betting and Lotteries Bill), and for the discontinuance of all other prosecutions now pending for permitting bookmakers to be present and accept bets at greyhound racecourses.
