§ Mr. McENTEEasked the Home Secretary whether he will consider making special facilities to provide for the wives of permanently injured prison officers, bearing in mind the case of ex-officer Lewis who was seriously injured in the Dartmoor mutiny and who is certified in a mental institution, and whose wife has no means of support after she has paid the costs of maintenance at the institution?
§ Sir J. GILMOURI am aware of the circumstances of the case to which the hon. Member calls attention, and this case has been the subject of special consideration. Provision is made for cases in which a prison officer retires from the prison service as a result of injuries received in the discharge of his duties, by supplementing with an award under the Workmen's Compensation Acts the pension and allowances for which he is eligible under the Superannuation Acts.
