Sir H. YOUNGThe total number of Poor Law institutions of all kinds in use on 1st January, 1926, was 1,114. The corresponding figure for 1st January, 1934, is 1,036. The number closed or transferred to other public purposes during the period was 125 and the number erected or acquired 47.
