HC Deb 12 March 1934 vol 287 cc36-7W
Mr. MOLSON

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the provision made for debt redemption in the Budget statement and the actual sum ultimately applied to the redemption of debt in each year from 1919–20 to the present time?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The figures are shown in the following statement:

holdings above one acre in extent in Great Britain, as returned in June, 1931, 1932 and 1933, were respectively: 829,073, 808,738 and 827,400, the latter figure being subject to revision so far as Scotland is concerned. These figures do not include farmers and persons working on their own account who were estimated in connection with the Agricultural Census of 1925 to number 360,000 in Great Britain. Later figures are not yet available.
