HC Deb 11 June 1934 vol 290 cc1357-8W
Mr. WHITE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that on 18th May Polish authorities took possession of the main enterprises and estates of Prince Henry of Pless and sequestrated his banking accounts, thereby paralysing the activity of the large Pless undertaking and jeopardising the livelihood of its workers, and, seeing that such actions constitute a violation of the minority treaty regulating Upper Silesian affairs to which Poland is a party, has any new petition from Prince Henry of Pless relating to these matters been received by the League of Nations; and what action will be taken to ensure that justice is now done in this dispute?

Sir J. SIMON

A petition from Prince Henry of Pless alleging acts of the kind to which the hon. Member refers has been received at the Secretariat of the League of Nations. It has been decided that the matter is urgent and, in accordance with the usual procedure in such cases, it will be placed on the Council Agenda immediately. Pending its examination by the Council, I am unable to make any statement.
