§ Mr. HENDERSON STEWARTasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the comparatively small amount of work and time involved in the service of police officers providing reports and giving precognitions in the case of accidents, he will consider reducing the fees charged by chief constables from 10s. to 5s.?
§ Sir G. COLLINSNo, Sir. The fees referred to were recommended as reasonable standard charges to cover the police time occupied in preparing documents or giving precognitions for the benefit of private individuals who are parties to a civil action. They may be modified or waived at the discretion of Chief constables in cases where they would entail hardship.
