§ Mr. DAGGARasked the Secretary of State for India how many men and women are still in gaols in India in connection with the civil disobedience movement; and whether he will request the Indian Government to order their immediate release and thus make a gesture of response to the abandonment of civil disobedience by Congress?
§ Sir S. HOAREThe number of convicted civil disobedience prisoners at the end of June was 747 as compared with 32,458 in April, 1932. This figure represents a decrease of 165 in the total during the last month and, as was stated by the Government of India in their Communique of 6th June, the policy of expediting the release of such prisoners will be continued by local Governments in the light of local conditions.
