Miss CAZALETasked the President of the Board of Trade what procedure is adopted in reviewing applications for the export of arms and munitions and determining what licences should be granted?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANThe Board of Trade are guided in this matter by the advice of the Foreign Office and the Service Departments.
Miss CAZALETasked the President of the Board of Trade how many licences for the export of arms and munitions have been granted and how many refused since 1918?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANRecords of the number of licences issued are not available for the whole period in question. In any event, statistics showing only the number of licences issued would give no indication of the quantities or materials covered by such licences, and to extract the information as to quantities and materials over the period for which records are available would require expenditure of much time and labour. I would point out that the monthly and annual trade accounts give particulars of the exports of arms, ammunition and military and naval stores.
