HC Deb 14 February 1934 vol 285 c1927W
Mr. R. T. EVANS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the amounts of debt remitted by Britain to various foreign and Colonial Governments since 1919?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which was given to my hon. and learned Friend the Member for South Nottingham (Mr. Knight) on 4th March, 1932. On the basis there adopted, the amount of debt remitted, if the Agreements for funding the Allied War Debts to this country had been fully carried out, would have been £912,000,000, apart from the Russian War Debt which is in default, and from reparations due by the ex-enemy Governments. As regards the position resulting from the Lausanne Conference, I would refer to the table printed on page 13 of the Financial Statement 1933–34 (House of Commons Paper No. 96).
