§ Mr. HALL-CAINEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the number of countries whose currency has depreciated in terms of sterling since the passage of the Import Duties Act, what further action is to be taken to prevent the excessive importation of goods from the countries concerned?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINNo course of action could be laid down which would be applicable to all such cases as are mentioned in this question. His Majesty's Government will continue to hold each558W case under constant observation, and from time to time will consider whether, and if so what, action is necessary in the interests of the country.
