HC Deb 21 December 1934 vol 296 c1535W
Sir W. ALLEN

asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the advisability of introducing legislation abolishing the law by which women can suffer the death penalty and forbidding the exhibition or publication of newspaper posters or other sensational matter relative to such things?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regard the second part, it is deplorable that certain newspapers should make the carrying out of a sentence of death the occasion for sensational copy, but my hon. Friend will appreciate the difficulty of attempting to deal by legislation with offences against good taste.
