HC Deb 26 April 1934 vol 288 c1894W
Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to the hardships felt by a number of persons employed in local Employment Exchanges whose seniority and other rights are jeopardised because, for good reasons, they are not ex-service men; and will he look into this grievance with a view to its removal?

Sir H. BETTERTON

It is assumed that the hon. Member is referring to the preference which is accorded to ex-service men in fixing the order in which temporary officers are discharged when reduction of staff is necessary. This preference, like the similar preference accorded to ex-service men when temporary officers are engaged, has been granted by every Government since the War, and it is not proposed to discontinue it.
