§ Mr. HurdThe role of volunteers in civil defence is crucial. That is why the new civil defence regulations impose further responsibilities on local authorities in the recruitment, training and exercising of volunteers. We shall keep under review my hon. Friend's suggestion of a national information campaign. There are already about 35,000 volunteers in different categories of civil defence.
