§ Mr. RHYS DAVIESasked the Attorney-General the date of the last meeting of the magisterial advisory com- 1003W mittee for the borough of Crewe; when it is intended to fill vacancies now existing on the commission of the peace for the said borough; whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that at no time have any women magistrates been appointed; and whether, in view of recent representations in this connection by working-class women's organisations at Crewe, the matter is likely to receive the attention of the Crewe Borough Magisterial Advisory Committee at an early date?
§ The ATTORNEY-GENERAL:My Noble Friend the Lord Chancellor informs me that he is unable to state the exact date of the last meeting of this advisory committee. The meetings of these committees are held when further appointments to the local bench are considered necessary, without previous consultation with him. It is understood that a meeting will shortly be held to consider whether any additional appointments should be made to the Commission of the Peace. The Lord Chancellor is aware that there are no women justices in the borough, and the attention of the advisory committee has been drawn to the matter.
