HC Deb 13 June 1933 vol 279 c26W
Mr. R. T. EVANS

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the total of the rates levied in Wales and Monmouthshire by local authorities and the sums received by the Department of Customs and Excise during each of the last five completed years?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The income of local authorities in Wales and Monmouthshire from local rates during the last five years is as follows:

£
1928–29 10,363,127
1929–30 9,142,659
1930–31 7,859,807
1931–32 7,741,000*
1932–33 7,721,000*
* Estimated figures.

I regret that figures of the receipts by the Department of Customs and Excise in respect of Wales and Monmouthshire are not available, and that I should not feel justified in present circumstances of giving instructions for the large volume of detailed work which would be required for their preparation.
