HC Deb 01 June 1933 vol 278 c2076W
Mr. GIBSON

asked the Minister of Transport whether it is the intention of the Government to give further consideration to the Weir Report upon the electrification of railways, with a view to carrying out the recommendations of that report in the interest of employment?

Mr. STANLEY

I understand that the railway companies are still examining in the light of the conclusions of the Weir Committee, the question of railway electrification. Under the provisions of the London Passenger Transport Act, the electrification of lines in the London suburban area is a matter which it will be the duty of a standing joint committee of the railway companies and the London Passenger Transport Board to consider, and steps have been taken to expedite such consideration.
