Sir I. MACPHERSON

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when the farm of Red Point, Gairloch, Ross-shire, was put at the disposal of the Department of Agriculture for land settlement; whether these lands have now reverted to the proprietor to let outwith the Small Landholders Acts; what was the total expense to the State in connection with this settlement; and what sum the Scottish Land Court awarded to the landowner for deterioration of land while under the Department's management?

Sir G. COLLINS

The farm of Red Point, Gairloch, Ross-shire, was put at the disposal of the Department of Agriculture for Scotland for land settlement at the term of Whitsunday, 1923, and one new holding and seven enlargements of existing holdings were formed. The new holding was renounced by the holder as at 19th August, 1932, and the holding has been let by the proprietors, with consent of the Department, out with the Small Landholders (Scotland) Acts. The total net cost to date in connection with the settlement is £1,324 3s. 10d. The pro- prietor claimed compensation under Section 17 of the 1911 Act and the Land Court awarded a sum of £136 4s. 10d., but did not specify any amount awarded to the landowner for deterioration of land while under the Department's management.
