§ Sir S. HOAREThe desired information cannot be given without a reference to the Government of India, and its preparation must involve the expenditure of much time and trouble as statistics are not kept in a form which would enable this information to be collected from existing data. In view of the present preoccupation of all the Governments in India with work of an urgent and important nature arising out of the proposals for Constitutional Reform, I feel sure the Noble Lady will agree that it 2241W would not be proper to invite them to undertake the labour involved in compiling the statistics for which she asks.
