HC Deb 20 July 1933 vol 46 c139W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the estimated price per useful therm of coal and heavy oil delivered to power stations in England; and how this compares with prices in 1974 and 1981.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I am advised by the CEGB that the average prices for coal and oil delivered to power stations in England and Wales in 1974–75 and 1981–82, together with indications of recent prices, are as follows:

Coal Oil
1974–75 50 77 pence/gigajoule
(5.3) (8.1) (pence/therm)
1981–82 165 260
(17.4) (27.4)
Mid-1983 185 280
(estimates) (19.5) (29.5)

Note: These figures are based on net calorific values.
