HC Deb 20 July 1933 vol 46 c165W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will estimate the effect of unemployment in the building and construction industry of the decision to build an airport in the Falkland Islands.

Mr. Gummer

I understand that 1,000 to 1,400 people will be employed by the contractors on the construction of the airfield itself and recruitment of the labour force will take place in this country. The project will also generate significant orders for United Kingdom building materials, plant and equipment, although it is difficult to estimate the secondary employment effects accurately.
