HC Deb 10 February 1933 vol 274 cc510-2W
Mr. LECKIE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that, notwithstanding the Ottawa Agreements, the present duties on British woollen goods into Canada are now higher than they are for any European foreign country except Spain; and what steps he proposes to take to endeavour to bring about a reduction?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE:

I am aware that the Canadian Customs duties on woollen goods bear heavily on the trade of this country. As regards the second part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to Articles 11 to 13 of the United Kingdom-Canada Trade Agree ment which provide for the review of existing Customs duties. As the hon. Member is aware, the tariff board to which reference is made in Article 12 of the Agreement has now been constituted.
